Another DBA II/69b Sassanid Persian Army 220-651AD

Another Sassanid Persian Army for sale.  My super bike is now paid for, so I might start keeping some of the armies I paint!  This army hasn't changed that much from the DBA 2.2. lists.  I went heavy with the 'manly persian pink', worked well.

1x3Cv(Gen), 1x4Kn, 4x3Cv, 1xEl or 3Cv, 1x3Cv or 2Lh, 1x3Cv or 2Ps, 1x2Lh or 3Ax, 2x7Hd, 1 DBA Camp

DBA 3.0 II/81a Sub Roman British - Army of Arthur

Here's the finished Sub Roman Brits, Army of Arthur.  In the end a pleasure to paint. I tried to mimic the look from the supplement, especially the red & white shields.

II/81a Army of Arthur
1 x 3Kn(General), 1x3Cv, 1x3Cv(Welsh Gentry), 1x4Kn(Cataphracts),
2x4Bd(Legionaires), 5x4Sp(Pedyt), 1x2Ps(Archers)

The Kontos/Spears for the horsemen are wire spears attached with epoxy.  The Legionnaires had their soft metal spears removed.  I've added strips of plastic for swords, so they can be easily identified as Blades. The bases finished with 'large' tufts of static grass.

A mighty foe to face?

Arthur himself, Minifigs I believe

Could not resist, Sarmations! Old Glory

Cavalry, Minifigs again.  Wire Spears.

Welsh Gentry

The Pedyt

Veni Vedi Vici Transfers, contrast well with the Shield colours.

Late Roman Archers, Minifigs.

Late Roman Legionnaires, Minifigs again.

Project Arthur

Another goal for this year.  I plan on creating 5 different DBA armies based on the Age of Arthur, Warhammer Ancient Battles source book.  Another cracking piece of work, lots of lovely inspiration.  It's been out a few years now but I'm determined to build some armies.

The five armies will be, Arthur's Army, Vortigern's Army (both Sub Roman Brits variants), Scots- Irish, Picts & Early Saxon.  The Picts & Scots-Irish will be very Chariot heavy.  I've collected enough figures for each army, though I keep changing my mind of some characters.  The first one is nearly completed, here are a few pics of the basic army.

12 Bases

4 Bases of Horsemen

5 Bases of Spear

DBA 3.0 IV/20 Ayyubid Egyptian 1171-1250AD

Put together for sale on EBay, two Ayyubid Egyptian Armies.  Super colourful, Cavalry Heavy, highly mobile.  I don't know what figures the majority are, they came as a job lot of about 200 Arab Riders without any horses.  There are some Essex Minis though.  Recently added are some Donnington Miniatures, the Arab Archers, Saladin & some of the barded horses.  Very good value at 60P for a mounted figure, 30P for foot.

IV/20 Ayyubid Egyption
1x3Cv(Gen), 7x3Cv, 1x3 Cv or 1x3Ax or 3Wb,
1x2Lh or 5Hd, 2x2Lh or 2x4Bw or 2Ps

1st Army

Project Flodden

I've lost the gaming 'mojo' over the past few years, the kids (my opponents) are growing up.  Work has took it's toll.  I've spent the past year on raising funds to pay for my super bicycle, so energies were spent on selling armies on EBay - awful absolutely awful.....

Anyway, I've been determined to get back into gaming, I've got two projects in mind.  The first is the Battle of Flodden 1513, I've always been fascinated by it.  Though it's a battle that's not very famous, odd considering it was fought on British soil & King James of Scotland was killed in it.

The plan then, using DBA 3.0 rules & lists, is to build two BBDBA armies, then have a game/campaign.  The DBA lists have the IV/83a Tudor English list 1513 & the IV/16 Scots Common Army list ends at 1513.  I don't want to just have the armies sitting around after the project is over, so I intend to use the English Army as a basis for a Henry VIII campaign.  We already have Italian Wars Armies, so battles with the French will be a future prospect.

Going through the 'Hordes of spare figures', we have a fair size English Army to begin with.  It will be primarily a Foot Army.  Composed mainly of Billmen & Archers.  It appears Cavalry/Knights didn't get a look in at Flodden.  Anyway more to come....
